Jencarlos Canela (born April 21, 1988) is an American actor and musician. He is best known for playing the leading roles in the telenovelas Más Sabe el Diablo and Mi Corazón Insiste.

Biography

Canela was born in Miami, Florida to Cuban parents, Lisette and Heriberto Canela. He is the older brother of actor, Jason Canela and has two older siblings, both from his parents' previous marriages.

Music career

At the age of 12 Jencarlos enters professionally in the world of music as the lead singer of the group "Boom Boom Pop". After two years of successful participation with the group he decides to start his solo career in late 2002. The next 5 years have been filled with learning and unforgettable experiences for Jencarlos, who has carried his music to the stages of important international events such as the "Miss World 2004 and 2005" beauty pageants, "The Latin Fiesta Festival" in Toronto Canada, and "The CALLE OCHO Festival" in Miami, among others. In spite of this, this talented artist never neglected his studies of music and acting in one of the most prestigious schools of art in the U.S., "The New World School of the Arts", where in May of 2006 he graduated with honors. His impeccable youthful image captured the attention of important multinational companies, such as the prestigious auto maker Ford, who chose him as model and singer for its "Ride it Like a Ford" ad campaign. This commercial was transmitted on television in the U.S. and became one of the most popular of its kind. Increasing considerably sales for Ford, this clearly demonstrates the commercial impact Jencarlos’ image has, lending his image and voice to several ad campaigns for The Telemundo Network.

Thanks to his indisputable charisma and talent, recognized musical producer Rudy Pérez put his efforts to produce Jencarlos first album, which is being produced at his studio in Miami Beach. This ambitious project offers the possibility of being produced in various languages, since Jencarlos has performed songs in English, Italian, German and Portuguese.

Acting career

One of the most important moments in the career of this young singer and actor was when he received the Invitation of Telemundo / NBC Network to take his first starring role of its new soap opera "Pecados Ajenos", where besides performing the main theme of the show, he plays "Alfredo Torres" Affectionate, noble, good son and good brother. In this his first soap opera Jencarlos shares credits with figures of the size of Mauricio Islas, Lorena Rojas, and Lupita Ferrer, among others.

Canela made his acting debut as Alfredo Torres in the hit telenovela Pecados Ajenos, in which he collaborated with Dominican singer Cristal Marie to create the theme song for the show. He then went on to appear in Doña Barbara.

In 2008, he starred in the critically acclaimed stage musical Miami Libre at the Arsht center.[1] Likewise Jencarlos debuted as the teather actor in the musical "Miami Free", a story that narrates the dreams of a young Cuban that arrives in Miami with the intentions of being singer, but for that to happen he will have to conquer a series of obstacles that make this work a true example of persevearance. In "Miami Libre", Jencarlos not only acted, but also performed songs, and showed his dancing abilities. The play was performed in both English and Spanish.

This young Cuban-American is capturing the attention of international mass media who have featured him in several magazine covers and feature inteviews and articles, In 2008 Jencarlos was the winner of People en Español.com Most Sexiest Man Poll, competing with figures as Ricky Martin, Eduardo Yañez, Pablo Montero, among others.

On January 16, 2009, Canela signed an exclusivity contract with Telemundo.[2]

In 2009 Jencarlos Canela star in with Gaby Espino in the soap opera "Mas Sabe El Diablo" obtaining a stunning success around the world.

Personal life

During the filming of Mas Sabe el Diablo in 2009, Canela was linked to his married co-star, Gaby Espino.Espino, who was separated from her husband from some time, but They both denied this and stated they were just friends. In September 2011 Canela and Espino did a live chat over social networking site Twitter, where they confirmed they were in relationship and announced they were expecting their first child together. Espino already has a daughter, Oriana.They actually are a couple very popular in the world of show[3]
